Q: Introduce Yourself

A: Bless! My name is Bamskelly and I’m a musical artist from Elmsford, New York

Q: Where did the nickname “Bamskelly” come from?

A: In high school I went by the nickname “Bones”, and once I got into music I wanted to go by an alias that was unique but simple. So I created one that was a variation of that.

Q: Proudly Jamaican-American. How did your upbringing inspire your creative style?

A: I grew up surrounded by all kinds of island sounds. Inspired by many greats artist such as Sizzla, Wyclef, Buju Banton, Bob Marley, Damian Marley, and Sugar Minot to name a few. I always loved the rhythm.

Q: How has the hair journey been for you?

A: The Freeform journey has been great. I try not to think about it too much by just washing and letting it grow.

Q: In what ways are you keeping productive during this time of isolation?

A: Along with working on new music, I’ve been using this time to sharpen my skills in cinematography for the next music video I’m working on. Using Practical and Special FX I aim to give this next music video a real movie-like feel. That’s all I can say about that for now.

Q: At what point in your life did you know that you wanted to pursue music?

A: When a friend of mine got some of my lyrics tattooed on her arm. It made me truly understand how powerful music is, and how it can move and affect people. So, I decided that my mission was to create music as a way to express, connect, and heal with others.

Q: Biggest challenges you face as a creative artist?

A: One of the biggest challenges I face as a creative involves trying to not stay stagnant through the quality level of my work. My goal is to always improve on my next project, or at the very least try something different. It’s easy to get caught up in a cycle when you’re used to doing things a certain way, so I am constantly trying to break that.

Q: Favorite quote?

A: “Everything you can imagine is real.”
